During excavation works on Gobi Desert a strange artifact was found made of the unknown alloy. Scientific research proved it to be of extra-terrestrial origin, possibly a small part of the Tunguska Meteor. but professor Sikarna of India was able to decode message encrypted on the artifact and found that it has contained detailed parameters of planet Earth. International scientific committee was formed to determine the meaning of this find. It was concluded that planet Venus must have been the origin of the artifact and thus there must be some sort of intelligent lifeforms on Venus. Professor Arsenev have gathered the crew of international scientists to take part in a mission to Venus, where he hopes to find out what was the meaning of the message stored on the Gobi Desert artifact. Polish scientist professor Soltyk builds a robot called Omega that will help during the exploration of planet, but when the mission reaches Venus whet they find is puzzling...
Film based on Stanislaw Lem short story filmed in East Germany and Poland co-production shows the mission that follows what was expected to be first contact with extra-terrestrial civilization. Group of scientists land on the planet Venus, where they expect to find some sort of intelligent lifeforms, but during the exploration they stumble upon more questions than answers and they have to find out the rules of the world they have just entered. Fro quite old sci fi film First Spaceship on Venus (original title The Silent Star) has quite good special effects (yes, I know, you can see the lines during the zero-gravity scenes) and offers more complex and thrilling story than most of the pre-"2001 Space Oddysey" productions. Of course the visual and audio quality are rather low, but keep in mind it was filmed in 1959 in communist countries...
