Battlefield Earth 2000 sci-fi film

Running time: 120 minutes

Language: English

In year 3000 the remaining human are either slaves or live in primitive tribes, all due to invasion that took place about 1000 years earlier. The humanoid aliens from planet Psychlos have invided Earth and conquered the inhabitants. Jonnie Goodboy Tyler, together with hunter called Carlo, leave one of those tribes and try to explore the area when they are captured by the Psychlo patrol and transported to a slave camp built on the ruins of Denver. Terl, the Psychlo chief of security, is punished for his adventrue with senatorís daughter and his contract on Earth is extended for long time. Terl is bitter, the corporation has left him on this planet, where he has no chance of achieving anything. He comes up with plan how to increase the productivity of the Earth branch by using humans to work on the mining of the minerals from areas where it is too dangerous for the Psychlos themselves. Terl choses Jonnie as a foreman, educates him with rapid-learning machine and sets him out together with group of slaves to find the gold. But with help of the knowledge he has gained Jonnie comes up with his own plan - to plot a revolt of humans.

Film based on L. Ron Hubbardís (the founder of Scientology) novel presents first half of the book, it was intended to make second movie covering the other half, but Battlefield Earth was such huge flop that any further plans were dropped. There are numerous resons behind it - first of all the book and the movie were heavily promoted by Scientologists (the book was mostly bought by the church members), the book was of low quality, the main character of Terl is played by John Travolta, who himself is one of the most recognizable Scientologists, so overall it all seemed like just another propaganda production from Church of Scientology. But after the movie was released the viewers were far from being impressed with the film itself - poor script, bad acting, poor directing, awful special effects and what is the worst the movie is horribly dull. Watch it only if you run out of sleeping pills.
