Film based on L. Ron Hubbard’s (the founder of Scientology) novel presents first half of the book, it was intended to make second movie covering the other half, but Battlefield Earth was such huge flop that any further plans were dropped. There are numerous resons behind it - first of all the book and the movie were heavily promoted by Scientologists (the book was mostly bought by the church members), the book was of low quality, the main character of Terl is played by John Travolta, who himself is one of the most recognizable Scientologists, so overall it all seemed like just another propaganda production from Church of Scientology. But after the movie was released the viewers were far from being impressed with the film itself - poor script, bad acting, poor directing, awful special effects and what is the worst the movie is horribly dull. Watch it only if you run out of sleeping pills.
