Misfits 2009 scifi tv show

Running time: 40 minutes

Language: English

While six socially inadequate teens take part in their community service supervised by the grumpy probation officer Pete a weird electrical storm hits the city and knocks all of them off their feet. They regain consciousness and feel funny, as they soon find they have gained some weird skills - Kelly begins to hear thoughts of other people, Simon discovers that he becomes invisible from time to time. They are not exactly friends, far from it, so they keep their superpowers to themselves, but when they are attacked by Pete, their probation officer, they begin to share their experience with those unusual new powers. While defending themselves from Pete, who looks like crazy zombie and already killed one of the teens, Kelly kills Pete. Since they all already had problems with law they can?t just report the incident to police, fearing they would not believe them, so they decide to bury Pete and body of the teen that he killed. In the morning new probation officer arrives to supervise their community service, but she simply won?t overlook the fact that her predecessor vanished in the thin air and she begins to suspect that there is something sinister about the teens. She has special reason to look for any sign of Pete, since he was her boyfriend.

British scifi comedy drama series about teens gaining superpowers in a freak storm and the ways they try to figure out what to do now. In style and approach Misfits was similar to such productions as Lost, X-Men or The 4400, but with more dark and edgy nature, while using dark humor to put some of the elements in perspective. While the first of five seasons was fresh, original and gripping, just like many other similar productions, Misfits creator Howard Overman come up with the brilliant idea for single season and after that the series begun to fall into pieces. The beginning was well developed, witty, interesting, but from season 2 the series looked like randomly chosen cliches put together in a hasty way - subplots that were used for one episode only, new characters that had not much to offer, returning again and again to the same parts of original plot... After season 3 the main characters were replaced by new ones in order to reshape the series, but it only made things worse. Misfits is another example of series that went from being brilliant to being just average and later be far below par. Unfortunately it seems that Misfits was yet another series that tried to build a long run on an idea sufficient for short series only.
