In 2013 the Earth is attacked by huge monsters called Kaijus that come to Earth through a portal on the bottom of Pacific Ocean. To fight them human kind built the Jaegers, equally big robots controlled by the pilots inside. Due to large size of the robot it takes two pilots to steer each Jaeger and their minds have to be synchronized. At the beginning the Jaegers were effective, but with time the Kaijus became stronger and more dangerous. In 2025 Jaegers are obsolete and the governments prefer to find different ways to defend their cities. Stacker Pentecost devises a plan to end the threat permanently by destroying the portal with a nuclear bomb. There is no better way to reach that target than using the remaining Jaegers.

Another new sci fi movie rich in special effects and very very poor when it comes to logic or content. There is a long list of completely idiotic things about that movie, but I will just point out few of them. The enemies are biological and it is possible to harm them using f.e. blades, so the scientists came up with the solution - giant transformers and wrestling. As it later turns out the Jaegers actually have blades, but I guess the pilots enjoy a bit of wrestling themselves. The Jaegers were built to protect the cities, but in fact while fighting the enemy they cause even more damage to the cities. Since there is only one portal through which the Kaijus are coming why not just place the first line of defence next to it? Why it took the governments 12 years to come up with idea to do something about the portal? I guess building the giant robots took some time and a lot of money, so why not spending it on dealing the symptoms and not the cause? And so on, and so on...

Overall it is poor film with quite good special effects, but the plot is not far from Japanese Godzilla movies from 50 years ago.
