The changes in Earth climate forced the human race to find a new place to live - Nova Prime. But later an alien species is discovered and it isn’t friendly one - they use the Ursas, large and blind creatures to hunt people by sensing pheromones of the human body while the person is scared. United Ranger Corps put up fight against the creatures, but one of them, Cypher Raige, seems to be invisible for the Ursas. The reason behind is that he actually does not feel fear. When he becomes a general in URC he wants his son to follow his footsteps and become a Ranger, but Kitai Raige isn’t that keen to learn how to fight. While two of them are traveling to another planet their ship is caught by an asteroid shower and crashes on, now unhabited, Earth. It turns out that their distress signal beacon is damaged - Cypher has his legs broken and he can’t leave the spaceship, but instructs his son how to find the tail part of the ship, where other beacon is located. Kitai armed with the basic equipment for the Ranges sets out to the unknown for him planet. All Cypher can do now is give him advices on how to survive.
Simple sci fi movie with story developed by Will Smith. There are rumours that in this movie, just like earlier in Battlefield Earth, the elements of Scientology believes are used, but if it is true then Scientology must really suck when it comes to story telling, because both the movies are rather poor despite well known people involved and obviously quite big budgets. All we have here is a father-son story set on Earth that has been unhabited for 100 years with young boy running through the woods and his father communicating with him from the spaceship. It is a really forgettable movie with simple story and rather pointless plot. The tagline for this production was "Danger is real, fear is a choice", but I think more appropriate would be "Boredom is real, to swtich off TV is a choice".
