Sheriff Rick Grimes was wounded on duty and taken to the hospital. When he wakes up from coma, he finds the hospital empty, just like the nearby streets. Well, almost empty, because there are zombies around. Rick stumbles upon Morgan Jones and his son, who learned how to survived in this hostile environment and share some basics with Rick. He will need that knowledge, because he is about to set out towards Atlanta in order to find his wife Lori and son Carl. The city turns out to be full of zombies and Grimes is lucky that there is a group of survivors, who save him from being attacked. He joins the group and together they set out to find a safe place to live. When they reach a farm located in a secluded spot, it looks like they finally found a save haven, but there are dark secrets lurking nearby.
TV series based on a comic books, which used a barely original idea of a zombie apocalypse and turned the main plot into more than just a simple survival story. The show from the beginning managed to build the tension not on the zombies, but more on the evil that was still alive among the survivors. First seasons were a tight-scripted stories, often with very dark overtones, surprising twists and gritty reality. Unfortunately, just like in a popular saying, The Walking Dead lived long enough to become parody of itself. Once the focus of the plot was moved from the group of survivors and switched to faction-based story of rivalry between people, it lost a lot of its original appeal and turned into nothing more than a set of one-dimensional characters and ridiculous plots.
Early episodes were a "must-see" kind of TV series, after a while they turned into "watch it if you must" kind of show.
