Dave Lister aboard mining ship Red Dwarf is tired with his pointless job as technician, so he finds a hobby that will help him get through the monotony - he irritates his roommate Arnold Rimmer in any way he can. After each prank Rimmer makes an official report, which irritates the officers. But one day the ship captain finds proves that Lister smuggled a cat on board of Red Dwarf, which is strictly forbidden, so as a punishment Lister is closed in suspended animation. When he regains normal functions he finds the ship completely deserted. Later he learns that he spend 3 million years in the stasis and that the whole crew, except him, was killed due to radiation leak. The central computer Holly is still working and not to let Lister go mad due to loneliness he will get a companion - the holographic image of the crew member that is most suitable. But since the computer is able to keep on one hologram he chooses the person with which Lister talked the most... Rimmer.
British comedy series set on board of Red Dwarf after whole crew was killed and Dave Lister is the last man alive. It doesn?t sound like a great start for TV series, not to mention the comedy series, but in fact creators managed to pull this one off - it is one of the best British comedy series. Due to fact that the whole humanity ceased to exist millions of years ago and that Red Dwarf is stranded somewhere in the space doesn?t mean that there isn?t much going on. With only 4 main characters the series was going great for several seasons mixing comedy with science fiction and adventures.
