Brian Palmer becomes commander of first ever settlement of human outside of Earth - together with 30 colonists he is suppose to establish colony on planet XB1174, but not everything went according to plan. First of all, Brian wasn’t suppose to be in charge, but the commander died during the travel, while rest of the crew was in suspended animation. Second, they are almost out of food, due to unforeseen circumstances, so they have to come up with good plan for the future right away. And the third problem is with the colonists themselves - Doctor Lillian Pointer is determined to get rid of Brian and become commander herself, another scientist, Mason, kicks off with experiments based on dubious moral standards and the couple that was suppose to start the next generation of colonists, Carol and Richard, were not fully honest during recruitment process.

British radio sitcom set on some fictional planet XB1174, where first human colony is established. Together with Brian Palmer we face all the surprising problems he has to face while trying to control the colonists and provide them with conditions to survive. Despite being a sitcom My First Planet actually raises interesting views on what could become a problem while such colony would ever be established outside of Earth, not only legal, social, but also moral problems. With very good cast full of experienced actors (like Nicholas Lyndhurst, Vicki Pepperdine, Tom Goodman-Hill and Cariad Lloyd) it is entertaining radio show for fans of comedy and sci fi. However some of the stories center around the our current phenomena (like social media, reality TV or tabloids) rather than challenges that would be expected to arise in space.
