After tragedy strikes one of the Mexican cities cynical reporter Andrew Kaulder tries to get as close as possible to victims of the hotel collapse. But one phone call changes his plans - Sam Wynden, daughter of his boss is stuck in a hospital and Kaulder is given no choice but to escort her to the nearest sea port. Six years ago NASA probe have detected life form within solar system, but while returning to Earth it has crashed in Mexico. Since then half of the country is closed as Infected Zone and any land transit through the area has ceased. Ferry is their only hope to return to United States, but they have to hurry. The zone is filled with large alien lifeforms and from time to time the military forces are attacking them to keep them away from the borders of the zone. When Sam and Andrew reach the port there is only one ferry left before the port will be closed by soldiers, so a single ticket will cost them 5000 dollars. During their last night in Mexico they Andrew is robbed and loses Sam’s passport, which means she will not be able to get aboard the ferry. Soon they discover there is no ferry anyway. Their only option is to enter the Infected Zone and cross it on land.

British scifi film about couple of Americans forced to cross the closed zone to reach their homeland. Although the basic idea for the infected zone is rather good (although similar to Roadside Picnic by Strugatsky brothers) the film itself is far from being interesting - instead of the zone and the scifi elements the story concentrates on the two main characters and their relations during the journey that is as thrilling as taking a bus. Overall a good premise that leads absolutely nowhere.
