In future the world is overcrowded and polluted, so the wealthy citizens chose to live on the large satellite called Elysium. The only way for the normal people to be allowed to enter the Elysium is via the shuttle if they have received the proper citizenship. Max used to be a car thief, who know tries to forget about his past and time he spent in prison, and works hard in the factory. One day he gets into trouble with the police robots and one of them breaks his arm. In the hospital Max meets his childhood sweetheart named Frey. In factory Max has an accident and after receiving deadly dose of radiation he has only few days to live. The only way for him to be cured is to go to Elysium. He gets in touch with black market people and offers his skills as thief for the place in the next shuttle that will go illegal to Elysium. Later he learns that Matilda, daughter of Frey, has leukemia and for her also the visit to Elysium is the only solution.

Sci fi movie from the creator of District 9 bears strong similarities to the South African production. The whole idea of mixing almost exact elements into a movie again wasn?t such a good idea. Again we have overcrowded slums, police brutality, the black market, a lone hero that has to take care not only for himself, but also helpless mother and her children, and also again we have the political elements. Elysium alone is decent movie, although lacks the originality or any deeper meaning. Special effects were ok, cast was ok, plot was ok, but it?s hard to get excited over the story that you have already seen before.
