The year 1946 was a grim point in history - Nazi Germany after gaining advanced technology changed the outlook of World War 2 and finally invaded Great Britain. Most of the Europe is occupied by their army of soldiers and the results of the experiments conducted by General Wilhelm Strasse, known as the Deathshead. As US Special Forces officer, Captain BJ Blazkowicz, we take part in a massive bomb raid that aims to destroy the fortress of Strasse and stop his work. The attack does not go as planned - most of the airplanes are shot down by the AA defence or the Nazi jet fighters. We end up in one of those planes when it hits the coast near the fortress, but together with other survivors of the crash, we are not safe - the beach is full of battle dogs, creatures that are more robotic than actually dogs, and we have to find a weapon to fight them. While we fight our way towards the fortress we meet another of Strasse creation - huge walking machine that is armed with guns and rockets. Before we are able to do any damage to the fortress we are caught and put in a lab together with other soldiers. From that point story leads us 14 years into the future...
Another version of classic FPS game (first-person shooter), this time taking place in a post-war reality, in which Nazi Germany have won World War 2 and conquered most of Europe. As American soldier we take part in the Allied raid that ends up in flames and have to cooperate with the resistance of occupied countries to stop General Strasse. While the game puts emphasis on the story side of the game the shooter elements are slightly disappointing - from the single-route levels, weapons disappearing at the end of each section of the game, stealth elements that are underused. We have one great feature - lazer cutter - that gives us chance to cut through the walls or fences, but this it overused through the game and at the end it turns out to be the only weapon that is worth to actually have. The post-war reality setting was interesting idea, but the game fails to deliver the basics, like enjoyable shooter elements, instead putting a lot of pressure on following the plot through the cut-scenes that make the shooter parts seem even shorter and lest important. Overall not bad game, but a bit overpacked with elements from other games.
