After the events from Metro 2033, when Artyom has launched the missiles against the Dark Ones (in the canonical ending), he has become a Ranger. Everything went well for him until he was visited by Khan, a lonely wanderer, who informed Artyom that one of the Dark Ones has survived the missile attack. Soon he also learns about the unstable situation between factions and joins the mission to make a contact with the last Dark One since he obviously is able to communicate with them. Again he sets out into the dark tunnels of the metro and gets tangled into conflict between factions hoping to restore the balance.

Sequel to Metro 2033 presents the events that took place year after the ending of first game. Again we start the exploration of the tunnels filled with mutated animals and even more dangerous enemies - the people. This time the war between factions plays the main part - although we are trying to reach the last surviving Dark One the ambitions of people, who are trying to make personal gain from it is the main plot.

Just like in the first game here we also have very limited choice to decide the fate of Artyom - often while travelling with the guide we are simply watching what is going on and not making decisions how to go further - we just have to follow them or their advice. The basis of the game haven?t changed - again we have to deal with the mutated creatures and the people, who are trying to gain control over the stations. Again we have to make decisions about using weapons since ammo is also a currency, but this time we are spending considerably more time on surface while taking part in the mission, which makes a lot of difference. Unfortunately again our movement is very limited and even when we enter the interesting part of the city we can only get through it in one way.
