The Founding Murder Mord założycielski 1989 scifi novel

Years after the events from Half-Life, the story follows a different set of characters as they prepare for upcoming Games. Daniel III is one of the top contestants - strong, agile, quick, smart - he has all the skills he needs to deal with the dangers of the Games. But his story begins in a bar, where he notices an attractive girl sitting at the table with some loathsome man. Daniel knows well why they are together right now - she has to be a volunteer escort to pay her bit to the society, he on the other hand is a killer, who is used by the secret police to keep an eye on the society. But this night things will change, because Daniel really wants to take the girl with him, so he starts a fight with the killer. In a different part of the Apostezjon the security officers are trying to figure out why there are some tensions inside the Council of the Experts. Meanwhile, Nordmann, a writer dedicated to the ideals of Apostezjon, begins to suspect that something is going on behind his back. There is some secret meeting of the Council and he, one of the experts, was not invited. What is more, a journalist pays him a visit and asks some suspicious questions. Soon, a rumour breaks out that one of the experts from the Council died of a heart attack. To makes things a bit more tense, the chief of the secret police is also found dead.

The third of the books is slightly different in the style. While still there are parallel threads that intertwine, this novel is less philosophical and more concentrated on dynamic action. The first two books were showing the ideas behind Apostezjon, while The Founding Murder shows how those ideals turn into a regular power struggle that leaves no one unscathed. Out of the three, this one is the best book, but as a stand-alone story would struggle to show the whole multi-layer construction of Apostezjon.
