A Maze of Death 1970 scifi book

In a world organized around religious doctrine, people have to take part in a prayer-like process in order to change their fate. Some of them are given a new assignment - planet Delmak-O that they never heard of. But since they were looking for a change in their lives, they are happy to take a risk. On arrival, all they find is a very basic, small colony with only a handful of inhabitants. The last to arrive, Seth and Mary Morley, are introduced by those who spent the last few weeks on Delmak-O to the unique nature of the planet - the environment is not exactly hostile or barren, but more dull and uninteresting. But the first surprise are tiny creatures, which look like bees or beetles, but are in fact small robots, which carry cameras or other equipment inside. Now that the last of 14 expected colonists arrived, they can contact the satellite, which will transfer their orders to the settlement. After some technical problems, they are finally able to contact the satellite, but it seems that either the orders were erased or someone is trying to prevent them from receiving them. But the real problem is that without the orders or access to the satellite, they are more or less on the planet and have no way to contact anyone and ask for help. Soon a different kind of challenge appears - one of the colonists is found dead.

A Phillip K. Dick novel in a very Phillip K. Dick style - people stuck on a secluded settlement on an unknown planet are facing challenges not only to figure out how to survive, but also how to keep their sanity when there are strange things going on around them. The plot is a mixture of different motifs, but the interesting part is the religion mixed with science fiction. It is not the best Dick novel, but is intriguing enough to be worth reading.
