Six survivors, who managed to get out of the maze, are taken by helicopter to a closd facility, where they are mixed with the other kids. It becomes obvious that their maze was just one of many and from each of them the teenagers that found the way out of the maze are brought together and for few days kept in laboratory. Janson, who runs the facility, explains them that they are vital because of the immunity to Flare virus that turned most of the human into zombie-like creatures, who still live in The Scorch, the deserted area outside of those facilities. Each day few of the kids are taken to unspecific camps, where they can be free again. Thomas is suspicious and together with Aris sneaks out of their quarters to find that the Immunes never really leave the facility - Janson runs some sort of experiments on them, after their death of course, and actually works for World in Catastrophe Killzone Department. Also he learns that Ava Paige is not actually dead, she is in charge of that facility. Thomas is determined to escape...
Second (and unfortunately not last) film from Maze Runner series shows the events that took place after the Gladers have left the maze and were taken to some sort of laboratory. Comparing to first movie a lot have changed - the story is full of action, the mystery is gone, the whole movie is reduced to a single question "who they can trust"? And the answer is unfortunately "who cares"? This production lacks originality, lacks the style and mystery that The Maze Runner was offering. They were replaced by cliches, scenes that look like copies of Fallout 3 scenery or 28 Days Later, World War Z, I am Legend and few other zombie movies. Not to mention that the story of The Scorch Trials is chaotic, leads to more or less nowhere and has serious loopholes (f.e. the WCKD spent a lot of effort to build huge and complicated mazes, but had no time or resources to secure their own facilities or clean up the city area, they managed to build complicated androids that lived in the mazes, yet they have no idea how to take care of zombies around their base). Overall a huge letdown and unfortunately the creators have already threaten they will make at least one more movie from the series.
