Fatherland 1994 science fiction movie

Running time: 105 minutes

Language: English

In alternative version of history April 1964, the month that Adolf Hitler’s 75th birthday is going to be celebrated, American journalist Charlie Maguire arrives to Nazi Germany. She was born there and now returns to see how everything has changed since Germans have won the World War 2 - they built the totalitarian state across the Eastern Europe and Russia. The day Charlie arrives is also special for SS Major Xavier March, who begins the investigation in murder case - body of Josef Buehler, a retired Nazi Party official, who managed the Jewish resettlement in the east during the war, is found floating in a lake. The only witness, young cadet, swears that he saw high rank Gestapo officer leaving the scene just before the body was discovered. March begins the investigation that will lead him and Charlie to discovery that will change their perception of the world around them.

Film based on the Robert Harris novel presents the alternative history of World War 2 and what happened after Hitler actually won and as usual the winners are writing the history, so the two main characters are trying to reveal the secret that lead Nazis to killing their own officials to keep it secret. Interesting look at the world politics plus the story behind it is actually true (Wannsee Conference).
