Guy Montag is an officer of fire brigade, but in his world it doesn’t mean that he fights the fires. He couldn’t even if he would wanted to - all the buildings are fireproof. No, the firemen have a lot more important part in the society - since it is illegal to possess books the fire brigades are responsible for searching the premises of people suspected and burn any books they will find. Montag has good position, beautiful wife, lovely house, he also has chance to be promoted, but everything changes when he meets on the train a woman named Clarisse. She asked him if he ever read any of the books that he is burning as firefighter. At first the question sounded ridiculous to him - he was an experienced officer dedicated to his job, but after a while he begun to hesitate and one day he actually read Charles Dickens’ "David Copperfield". From that point he started to doubt if his work and his whole perception of the world were right.
Science fiction film based on the Ray Bradbury novel about the dystopian society in which government tries to control the society by cutting them off from access to books and instead using television pulp and medications to keep them ignorant and seemingly happy.
