Running time: 95 minutes
In 2047 a distress signal from experimental spaceship called Event Horizon reaches the Earth, which is quite a shock since it was believed that the ship was destroyed years earlier. Even though the audio message is hard to understand clearly something horrible was going on aboard the Event Horizon. Rescue vessel Lewis and Clark is sent to inspect the situation and save any survivors from what was the reason behind distress signal. Among the crew of Lewis and Clark there is one passenger, doctor William Weir, who designed Event Horizon. While they are closing to their target and crew is released from stasis Weir can give them some more details about Event Horizon and its purpose. It was designed to travel on long distances making use of the experimental artificial black hole propulsion that was able to bend the space time continuum and jump between two points in Universe within minutes instead of years. Its maiden voyage was to Proxima Centauri and 7 years after disappearance Event Horizon suddenly reappeared on the orbit of Neptune. While the crew listen to the distress call D.J. notices that some of the words heard on the recording sound like Latin "liberate me", meaning "save me".
British sci-fi film built around perhaps not very original story, but with good cast and interesting atmosphere it showed a lot of potential. Unfortunately while the story progresses it is losing its appeal and ends up with a lot of promise unfulfilled and plenty of scenes that could have been cut (which is ironic - see trivia).

Original version of the movie was about 130 minutes long and contained a lot of extra scenes that were later deleted for two reasons: the film was too long and most of those scenes contained a lot of gore, which studio wanted to be removed. Unfortunately together with them few scenes were deleted that contained important bits of information about the story that was left...
While the film failed to attract much attention during the cinema run it became more popular with VHS / DVD buyers, so studio wanted to make the director’s cut version, but... later it was revealed that the deleted scenes were actually lost.
The production of Event Horizon was running behind the schedule, which was made even worse due to poor test screening and modifications ordered by the studio, which resulted in project that was hurried and underdeveloped.
